Internal Zoom for Balance and Durability

Thanks to its internal zoom mechanism, the lens barrel does not extend or retract. This keeps the balance consistent, makes handheld shooting more comfortable and means gimbal users do not need to constantly rebalance. The design also helps protect internal elements from dust and moisture.

Faster, Quieter Autofocus

Featuring Nikon’s Silky Swift Voice Coil Motor (SSVCM) and a multi-focusing system, the lens delivers autofocus that is faster, quieter and more accurate. Tracking performance is also significantly improved when zooming, making it suitable for action and video work.

Advanced S-Line Optics

Engineered with Nikon’s latest S-Line optical technology, the lens uses fewer elements to deliver even greater sharpness and clarity. Dual-sided aspherical elements and ED glass control distortion and chromatic aberration, while Nikon’s Meso Amorphous and ARNEO coatings reduce ghosting and flare when shooting into bright light.

Smooth Bokeh and Close Focus

An 11-blade rounded diaphragm creates smooth, circular bokeh for flattering portraits and subject isolation. With a minimum focus distance of 0.24 m at 24mm and 0.33 m at 70mm, plus a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.32x at 70mm, this lens is excellent for detail shots without needing a dedicated macro.

Video-Ready Features

Videographers benefit from reduced focus breathing, a de-clickable control ring for silent aperture adjustment, and a focus limit switch. The included HB-117 lens hood has a filter adjustment window – ideal for variable ND filters when shooting video.
