Capture Chester: The Story Behind The Image

We’ve had such an amazing response to our Capture Chester Photography Competition that we wanted to showcase some of the talented photographers who have entered so far.

Many of the images made us curious to know more (the sign of a good image!) so we caught up with each photographer to find out a little more info!

Sue Harris: Off The Walls

‘I took this image on 16th June. I'd parked in Tesco and was walking via the walls to my dentist in Volunteer Street. I was early and didn't want to sit in the waiting room, so I carried on along the walls.

‘I heard the busker and looked over the walls and stood watching and listening. The couple wandered along and stood a couple of metres apart, listening to him. The busker was playing a lively number and the couple stood watching, then their feet were tapping, then their bodies were swaying, then they caught each other's eye, then they put down their bags and danced. It was a beautiful moment.

‘Two other ladies stood by me on the walls and we all had a tear in our eye!

‘I took a photo of the busker on his own, then with the couple just watching, then this image.

‘The funny thing was, I'd just photographed a group of school children having a lesson on 'how to kill a Roman Soldier' as I looked down from the walls to the Roman gardens and thought that was my shot of the day. The busker and the dancers were so much more special.

‘I'm a member of Ellesmere Port Photographic society and have dabbled with photography for several years. Every now and again, I get a good shot. My favourite genre is street photography but I've spent the last 18 months doing mostly flowers and birds, as I've been keeping safe in my back garden.

‘Trips to Chester were rare until recently, so I always took my camera if I went in to town.’
