Capture Chester: The Story Behind The Image

We’ve had such an amazing response to our Capture Chester Photography Competition that we wanted to showcase some of the talented photographers who have entered so far.

Many of the images made us curious to know more (the sign of a good image!) so we caught up with each photographer to find out a little more info!

Chris Evans: The Lane In The Rain

‘Chester is my go to City for street photography, I live in North Wales so it’s only 30 minutes away and easy to get to for me. I normally drop my partner off to go shopping, while the dog and I go on a photography bimble around the city.

‘Chester is great for both street and landscape shots, as you have the main city area and the banks of the River Dee close at hand - with a canal thrown into the mix as well - so there is something for everyone.

‘The day that The Lane In The Rain was shot, it was pouring down, which always makes for some great images as the rain brings the flagstones to life (something I learned from a good friend, as I used to keep my camera hidden during the rain).

‘I was on Chester Rows, sheltering under the arch at the end of Godstall Lane during a particularly heavy downpour and noticed the composition right in front of me. I thought the lady with the brolly added to the image and I managed to fire off a couple of shots. I am really pleased with the results.’

Shot on:

  • Fujifilm X-E3
  • 1/250 sec
  • ISO 800
  • F/9
