Featuring remarkable ZEISS optical quality, that includes five aspherical elements, three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements and a large AA (Advanced Aspherical) element, this lens produces exceptional corner to corner sharpness and resolution and helps reduce colour aberration and distortion. The T* coating, pioneered by ZEISS, contributes to the outstanding image quality and boosts contrast and clarity while virtually eliminating ghosting and flare.

Handheld shots in low light are achievable with the built in optical SteadyShot image stabilisation system. Using technology inherited from Sony’s High-End Pro Camcorders, gyro sensors built into the lens detect the slightest of movements and the lens compensates to counteract any image blur or movement that may occur in photos or movies. With a constant F4 maximum Circular aperture; photographers can produce exquisite background defocus effects with shallow depth of field across all focal lengths.

A short minimum focusing distance of 28cm and fast auto-focusing are a by-product of the internal focusing system. The overall length of the lens stays the same during focusing and the filter thread does not rotate which is convenient when using polarizing filters.
