Workshop Information:
This workshop takes place between 10am and 4pm, with a 30 minute lunch break, in our Studio at Wilkinson Cameras Liverpool. Lunch is not provided, but there are hot and cold drinks provided and a fridge for packed lunches as well as several lunch options on the doorstep.
The day will include:
- An introduction to Saraya's children’s portraiture work
- An in depth look at some of Saraya's work with specific tips of how to approach a shoot with children.
- We will pay particular attention to lighting and the correct lenses and camera settings to use in a variety of situations
- After lunch there will be a practical shoot with a child model to practice new skills and explore the various techniques you have learnt in the morning.
- After the shoot with the model there will be chance to critique your images and we will run through some post-processing, editing and printing
- You will choose one image to print and take home with you
Who should atttend?
The workshop is ideal for beginners and intermediate photographers alike, though we recommend being familiar with the basics of aperture and shuter speed as a minimum. Even advanced photographers wanting to learn how to take natural portraits and work with children will benefit.
It's also an ideal chance to try out some new cameras, including the Fujifilm X-T3 and the Fujifilm X-Pro3 as well as a selection of XF lenses. Whether you're an existing Fujifilm user or looking to switch to Fujifilm, there will be an expert on hand to help you get the most from the equipment available.
What do you need?
Essential: Please bring along an SD card for use on the day and to take your images home on.
Existing Fujifilm users, feel free to bring your camera and lenses.
Other system users, we'd really love you to try out the Fujifilm X series. Of course you can bring your own camera along and you may wish to do this in order to compare the two. There will be cameras available for everyone to use on the day.
About Saraya Cortaville:
Saraya Cortaville is an award-winning portrait and social documentary photographer.
She has received two fellowships (one of only two women in the UK to have achieved this): one for studio portraiture and most recently social documentary for a project she completed in 2015 whilst living in Africa.
She was awarded the Peter Grugeon award for the best fellowship portfolio of 2015, and a gold award in Visual Arts in the professional photography awards 2016.
Saraya’s passion for travel and people has pushed her career into a more adventurous phase and she has recently lived and worked abroad for various international NGOs documenting social issues in countries as far as Tanzania and Nepal.
Saraya skilfully manages to draw out her subjects emotions and feelings, in a sensitive and empathetic way. Her portraits are an observation and moment of connection, between two people, rather than photographer and subject.
When not abroad Saraya shoots primarily location portraiture, specializing in children and documentary weddings.
