Join award-winning Sony Professional portrait photographer Gary Hill for a practical workshop in dog portrait photography. You will learn studio lighting techniques, dog portrait photography techniques and how to work with dogs (or other well behaved animals!) as you take part in practical photography sessions across the day, using the latest Sony mirrorless cameras and lenses. Please leave your cameras (and dogs!) at home for this workshop as everything you need will be provided. Limited to just 10 people to ensure you get one on one help and plenty of time to take your photographs.

Gary Hill:

Award winning portrait photographer Gary Hill has been a full time professional photographer since 2010.

Since 2014, he has also been mentoring and training photographers and is an SWPP Convention speaker and MPA Masters Speaker.
Gary is the only speaker to have been at all the Newborn and Portrait Shows alongside the NI Portrait shows. He has supported the Guild Photohubs, SWPP Roadshows & MPA training days.

Gary is also a qualified Societies judge and has a Fellowship in portraiture.

Some of Gary’s awards include the Societies Child photographer of the year 2017-18, MPA NW Portrait photographer of the year 2018 and twice as Runner Up Societies Studio Photographer of the Year.
Gary has been awarded over 70 Gold awards from the SWPP, MPA, Guild of Photographers and the TNPS Open 1st and 2nd Place 2019.

 

Introduction to Dog Portraiture Workshop:

This is a practical photography workshop. You will be given a Sony A7 series camera and a selection of lenses to use throughout the day and a free SD card to use and take your images home on. Sony experts will be on hand, alongside Gary to ensure you get the most from the cameras and to answer any questions you have. This is a great chance to try the latest full frame mirrorless cameras and see why many photographers are switching.

 

Schedule:

The below is intended as a guide to how the day will take place and topics covered. Questions and Answers and hands-on sessions do sometimes result in timings changing on the day. Please bear this in mind if relying on public transport and booking tickets in advance.

9.15am - Arrival, refreshments will be available
9.30am - Introduction
10.00am - Studio Lighting Basics
11.00am - Shoot 1
12.30pm - Lunch (provided*)
1.30pm - Shoot 2
3.00pm - Break
3.30pm - Retouch & editing
4.00pm - Q&A
4.30pm - Finish

 

The day:

  • This workshop will take place between 9.30am and 4.30pm.
  • Please arrive from 9.15am where you will be greeted and tea and coffee will be available.
  • Lunch will be provided. A good selection of vegetarian food will be included as standard, but if you have any specific dietary requirements, please get in touch no later than Monday July 15th.
  • Dog(s) will be present - this is a real-life setup. Therefore this workshop isn't suitable for anyone with an allergy or fear of dogs.

 

Location

This workshop takes place at Gary's studio in Broughton, near Preston, Lancashire. Exact location details will be emailed to you a few days before the event.

 

Who will be there?

Sony UK will be providing equipment for the shoot and everyone attending will be loaned a Sony A7 series camera and lenses to use throughout the day. They will also be on hand to answer any questions and provide additional technical support.
