  • David is a key ambassador for Canon UK, as well as SanDisk, bringing vast knowledge of products and techniques, while also having a fun, natural rapport in the delivery of his sessions. During the morning, David will cover the detailed understanding and use of flash. Starting with manual functions, through to bouncing and modifiers with various techniques. The second part of the day will allow you to work with a model and test your new skills. Due to the increased power and popularity in Speedlites now becoming the portable, go to solution for portraits and weddings, there is no better time to learn.

     

    About David Newton:

    David will take you through the basics of flash photography in using real life examples. His plain-English, jargon free approach and easy-going personality will put you at ease so you can learn effectively. He is a very experienced photographer, videographer and trainer. These courses are sponsored by Canon, which allows us to offer them at the current price. A full day course with David usually costs in excess of £150.

     

    Although wildlife, landscapes and travel photography were his first love and still what he prefers to do, these days David Newton can be found photographing almost anything, from product shots and commercial work to abstract close-ups, portraiture and event photography. Recognised for his technical knowledge and approach to photography, David is often sought out by major photographic companies including Canon and SanDisk to provide a variety of services including training seminars, live presentation, technical expertise and photographic/video services.

    David’s photography and writing has been widely published. Among others, he has written for EOS Magazine, Canon Professional Network and PhotoPlus. He has also written technical and marketing material for both Canon and SanDisk. His photography has been published in all the above magazines as well as specialist publications such as Country Life and BBC Wildlife and the national press including The Times, The Telegraph, The Daily Mail, The Express and The Sun.

     

    Course requirements:

    This is a Canon Speedlite (flash) photography course, designed specifically for Canon DSLR systems. It will take you from the very basics through to the more advanced elements of speedlite photography, No prior knowledge of flash photography is required, but please ensure that you understand how to navigate your camera's menu system.

    Please bring your fully charged Canon DSLR, a suitable memory card, a speedlite (not required, but do bring one along if you have one) and a notepad and pen.

     

    Outcome:

    By the end of the course you will have learned how to correctly control your flashgun / Speedlite in a range of situations, and be able to identify and understand the different modes and settings and when to use them effectively. You will understand the principles of light and how to modify it for creative effect and also understand the importance of light intensity, quality and colour and how to control these elements.

     

    The Day:

    This course takes place at The Liverpool Learning Suite. Tea, coffee, etc. will be provided and atendees will ve given time for lunch. Lunch is not provided, but our central location means that there are many lunch options within a short walk. If you wish to bring your own packed lunch, then we do provide a fridge and guests are welcome to eat their lunch in The Learning Suite.

    Courses start at 10am, but feel free to arrive from 9.30am in order to get a coffee and relax beforehand. Courses finish at approximately 4.30pm, but this time may change, so please allow extra time when making travel arrangements.

     

    Accessibility:

    Please note that The Learning Suite is on the 1st floor of our Liverpool store and our toilet facilities are on the 2nd floor.

    Unfortunately, there is no wheelchair access. However, our staff are always on hand if you require any assistance. We are open for viewings 7 days a week, if you want to check the accessibility beforehand.
